Linear Outfits Martha Stewart Concept Home
This year's International Builders Show features a model home that incorporates green and technology features.

We have no idea what the queen of home living has for A/V and other technology in her own massive residence, but the Martha Stewart-billed concept home being showcased at this week's 2011 International Builders Show (IBS) features distributed audio goodness from Linear.
The home -- officially the "KB Home Greenhouse: An Idea Home Created with Martha Stewart" -- was constructed as a net-zero energy home for the IBS expo, which runs Jan. 12-15 in Orlando, Fla.
It's a single-story, 2,667-foot abode located in nearby Windermere, Fla., designed to integrate energy efficiency, eco-friendly materials and the latest in technology. (You can take a virtual tour by registering at www.builderconcepthome2011.com.)
The backbone of the core audio, video and communication technology throughout the home is a Linear structured wiring network that also facilitates whole-home A/V streaming.
The audio portion of the installation features Linear's Encore four-zone, four-source distribution system. The expandable-to-32-zone system sends 24-bit digital audio around via single Cat 5 wiring, and includes local source support for things like plugging in MP3 players.
On the speaker side, flush-mounted WG Series ceiling speakers pipe in the digital tunes to areas such as the living room and kitchen/dining room. The speakers incorporate 6.5-inch Kevlar woofers and 1-inch asymmetrical aluminum dome tweeters.
Linear's telephone interface hub allows for up to four phone lines to be installed at as many as 12 locations. A DMC-10 intercom system runs throughout, and features scenes such as "Do Not Disturb" as well as a hands-free reply.
