Linear Access Control Based on Linux OS

The new eMerge e3 Series products from Linear provides installation professionals with access control solutions that can be tailored over time to meet the evolving needs of commercial business owners.

The e3 Series of access control products from Linear can be used in businesses as diverse as banking, medical, retail and hospitality.

Linear is a well known manufacturer of security products for the residential and commercial markets and recently the Carlsbad, Calif.-based company announced its latest line of security solutions: the new eMerge e3 Series of access control products.

The first of these new access control products are the new eMerge Essential and the eMerge Essential Plus embedded browser-based network appliances. Linear says the products are designed to fill the needs of medium sized businesses with the eMerge Essential providing business owners with a 1-door/2-reader access control unit and expansion capabilities that provide growth as businesses evolve.

“The Linear eMerge Essential has all the access control and management features many businesses require whether they are in commercial, industrial, banking, medical, retail, hospitality or some other segment,” notes Duane, Paulson, senior vice president of product and market development, Linear LLC.

“eMerge offers tremendous value from a cost perspective but also because customers can easily install an entry-level solution with features normally found in large-scale systems and still upgrade to more doors and readers as the business grows.”

Linear says the eMerge products utilize on embedded Linux operating system (OS) and solid-state hardware that the company says minimizes problems such as hard drive failures, virus/spyware attacks and Microsoft updates that can mistakenly take a system offline. The Carlsbad, Calif.-based manufacturer also supports the products with an optional Power over Ethernet (PoE) power supply and a UL294-approved 60-watt supervised power supply that is enclosed in a heavy-duty enclosure.

In addition, the product line also features a set-up wizard that is said to save hours of installation time when compared to traditional systems. Integrated inputs and outputs also enhance the product line’s versatility, and Linear points out that once a system is installed users can receive status updates via any web browser and operating system. The status updates optimize to display on computer monitors, iPhones and iPads, and the systems allow for backup to Micro SD or FTP-based storage sites to ensure records are maintained.
