LG, Funai Add Tru2way Support
Companies sign agreement with top six U.S. cable operators in support of tru2way.
LG and Funai have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the top six U.S. cable operators in support of tru2way technology.
Tru2way is Java-based middleware that enables TVs to access interactive digital and HD services without a settop box.
CE players have been hesitant to adopt tru2way, but this MOU could result in a faster adoption of the technology.
LG president Wook Paik says the HDTVs the company will release in 2009 will feature tru2way support.
ABI Research says half of U.S. cable subscribers will have tru2way by 2013.
The MOU also includes these electronics companies: Emerson, Magnavox, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sony and Sylvania.
Bright House Networks, Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, Cox and Time Warner account for an estimated 80 percent of all U.S. cable subscribers.
