iSky Fiber Optics Closes Doors

Cool lighting effects are gracing more home theaters, media rooms and other interesting spaces than ever before. So it's surprising that one of the rising stars in colored LED and fiber optic lighting, Fiber Optic Studio Corp., is closing its doors after 25 years.

CEO Jeff Graham wrote in a letter to friends and colleagues that the company, proprietor of the iSky brand of lighting products, "has fallen victim to the declining market" and is shutting down immediately.

Founded by Graham in 1986, Fiberoptic Studio is best known for its iSky starfield ceilings, acoustic solutions and uRay LED lighting, typically designed into premium home theater and media rooms.

Earlier this year, the company received a patent for its iSky Panels, which combine fiber optics with LEDs and digital technology to create a star ceiling experience.

Graham is holding out hope that iSky will be resurrected. He writes, "No promises, but I hope that there maybe [sic] new happenings with iSky in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled."

Meanwhile, competitor Numinus/NuLEDs is wasting no time in picking up former iSky dealers. The company blasted out an email yesterday offering 10% off November orders for new customers who mention iSky's demise.

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The other day, I was reflecting back on my 25 years of experience in the fiber optic lighting industry and I realized that one of my career goals had been met with the advent of the iSky star ceiling system.

Over the years, I had experienced how difficult many applications of fiber optic lighting were and especially when installing a star ceiling.

So a small group of us went on a mission to develop a product that took advantage of all the benefits fiber optic and LED lighting had to offer, and develop a star ceiling system that was easy to specify, quote, order, and most importantly install. Where all of the work would be done in a factory (with the exception of the installation) and where cool lighting effects could be easily added to enhance the star ceiling experience. I believe we achieved this and more.

Having a great product in a great business climate is one thing, but like so many other small businesses, Fiberoptic Studio Corp ( the "grandfather" of iSky ) has fallen victim to the declining market. Regrettably, and with great sadness, despite a valiant effort on so many peoples part, Fiberoptic Studio Corp. is having to close its doors effective immediately.

It took a group of really smart people, a ton of brainstorming and hard work to come out with the iSky product line and I am very proud of the people involved, their dedication and the product it self.

No promises, but I hope that there maybe new happenings with iSky in the near future, so keep your eyes peeled.
