Inteset’s 15 TB NAS Optimized for Home Media Storage, Sharing
TeraRAID XV-NAS is only 18 inches deep, quiet, and includes applications for simple management and sharing of TV content, photos and movies.

07.08.2008 — Inteset, developer of high-performance Media Center servers, clients, storage devices and software for whole-house media and control, is introducing a mega-storage system, the XV-NAS.

The latest in its TeraRAID line, the new 15-terabyte networked attached storage server (NAS) is a 5U solution that is only 18 inches deep. According to Inteset, the form factor makes it the "only high-capacity NAS unit on the market uniquely designed for an A/V rack."

Traditional enterprise NAS devices -- often used by integrators for the home market -- can be 25- or 28-inches thick and noisy.

Furthermore, the server is preconfigured to work with Inteset's Media Library application for movie, music, picture, and recorded TV content.

"Typical NAS systems when purchased have no volume, folder structure, shares, or permissions configured," says Inteset's Jeff Lloyd. "Inteset preconfigures this before shipping so that it will work out-of-the-box with our media servers (no complicated, time-consuming configuration needed)."

The 15-bay, hot-swappable RAID 6 server ships with Seagate hard drives that Inteset says are high-speed, low-power, quiet and "geared specifically for multi-streaming video applications."

The XV-NAS uses enterprise-level, CPU, RAID, and gigabyte Ethernet to support multiple high-bandwidth video streams.

Via Inteset's Heartbeat Monitoring Service, installers can opt to receive email alerts if there is any trouble such as a failing hard drive or bad fan. Inteset will automatically ship a new drive overnight if a bad one is detected.

The headless unit can be managed from any browser client using the included management software.

The TeraRAID XV-NAS units are available in two configurations: 15 TB ($14,995 retail) and 7 TB ($10,995). Single drives can be purchased for hot swap spares as well.

NAS Features

Instant Media Library Storage
Connect the NAS to your network and turn it on. You will instantly have access to up to 13 terabytes of movie, music, videos, pictures and recorded TV storage. Connects to the network via DHCP. A static IP address can be assigned later if desired.

Media Library Replication
If you have more than one XV-NAS, you can easily replicate your media library across NAS units over the Internet. Now you can have a matching library in all of your homes. (Requires an Inteset TeraRAID XV-NAS in each home. Due to Internet bandwidth limitations, it is recommended that replicated content be limited to music and picture. Flagged recorded TV content (DRM protected) cannot be played back on devices that did not recorded it.)

Web and FTP Access
Access your media library over the Internet. Listen to your music, show friends and family your pictures anywhere.

Dynamically Increase Storage
Dynamically increase Media Library storage capacity simply by adding disks to the NAS device.
