01.04.2008 — BURLINGTON, Ontario—Further extending its adoption by leading cable and A/V manufacturers, Gennum Corporation (TSX: GND) announced that its ActiveConnect(TM) technology has been selected by Gefen, a global provider of A/V solutions. Gefen will leverage the ActiveConnect technology in its new HDMI Over RGB Extender product offering, which will dramatically extend the distance that high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) signals can reliably be streamed over legacy cables. Gefen’s new product, based upon ActiveConnect technology, is capable of streaming high performance HDMI at up to 50 meters and offers a reliable and robust method of extending HDMI signals over standard RGBH&V (red, green, blue, horizontal sync and vertical sync) cables that are terminated with a BNC connector. The new product will be displayed at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas being held January 7-10 and joins a growing list of cable products based on the Gennum ActiveConnect technology.

Targeting high-rate HDMI applications, the semiconductor-based solution is comprised of a transmitter and a receiver and enables consumer, business and industrial applications to stream HDMI content, via low-cost cable, at distances an order of magnitude greater than cables available today. As important, the new solution supports current and legacy versions of HDMI, including 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3, enabling backward compatibility with existing equipment.

ActiveConnect Showcased at CES and CES Unveiled

Gennum will showcase its ActiveConnect solutions throughout CES next week. The Gennum demonstration will highlight the capability of copper cable linking a 24-inch 1080p display to a Blu-Ray DVD player, showcasing full HDMI 1.3 performance via 250 feet of copper cable. This demonstration will be showcased at the CES Unveiled press event, being held on January 5 at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, as well as in the Gennum booth in the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall 2, HDMI Pavilion, Booth #25705.
