Did CEDIA, CE Pro Pick the Right Winners?

What?  Crestron?  This product may look like a winner in theory but it is not even shipping and will probably not for 3-4 months.  Axonix and K-Scape’s products are available now.  I think before a product can win an award such as this is needs to be officially released.

Then again, what does Crestron spend at CEDIA?  Hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions.  I see why.

I believe crestron was selected because these days it’s all about ORGANIZING and ACCESSING content, not just PRESENTING it.

Axonix and kscape (and others) have excellent content management systems, but Crestron is unique in its ability to provide a single unified interface for finding content in-home and throughout the Web.

To be sure, in 6 months we’ll see all of the usual suspects competing in the “universal search” business.

What does it matter what Crestron spends at CEDIA? The ADMS was a cool new product and did you see the countless other ones that they showed? Nobody else came to play like Crestron did.  When everyone was talking about how much attendence was going to be down and several mfg’s didn’t even show up Crestron came with so many new products I’m still trying to remember them all.  Stop being a hater and go figure out how to be a dealer.

I did not say the ADMS was not cool or a great product.  Yes, Crestron does have awesome stuff.  All I am saying is an award should be given out for current products.  That would be like the Academy Awards Committee being shown a clip of a film and then deciding to award an Academy Award based on the clip and not on the final film.  It is obvious you are pro Crestron.  Trust me I have figured out how to be a dealer.

What about “justaddpower”?  did everyone miss that?  This should be BEST OF THE SHOW PERIOD.  This is finally something that shows us HDMI distribution CAN work - and it doesn’t cost $7000 to connect to 8 TV’s and might work.  Oh yeah - if you didn’t see it - it is HDMI distribution over IP to a managed switch (off the shelf).  Crestron?  Please…

You may want to do your homework.  You can’t send 1080p over IP without compression.  There is another article on here that has discussed this already.  Also, this solution may allow you to send HDMI signals, but what about the other problems with HDMI? CEC control issues, switching delays, 1.4, etc.  Once you get your commercial grade switch in here you are going to be spending a bunch of money on something that doesn’t have good quality and still has problems.  Why?  It’s so easy to pick on Crestron because they are the biggest, but it shouldn’t be about that.  It’s about doing it the right way for you and your customers and it just so happens that they make a product that is well thought out and works.  Sure their is a price to pay for that, but at least your customers will be happy and you will make more money in the process.
