CircuitCity.com is Back with ‘In-Depth Knowledge’
The brand, purchased by Systemax for $6.5 million, launched its site over the weekend.
As promised on its temporary site last week, CircuitCity.com is back up and running.
The brand, which was purchased by Systemax for$6.5 $14 million, has been reincarnated as an online-only source for consumer electronics, computers and accessories. It promises “a wider selection of products than previously offered in Circuit City stores or online.” (CORRECTION: $6.5 million was the original bid, but ultimate Systemax agreed to pay $14 million with an earn-out of $3 million.)
On the new site, which apparently launched over Memorial Day weekend, Systemax claims to offer “world-class online content designed to provide you with in-depth knowledge,” including “countless educational articles written by experts in the computer & electronics industry.”
It adds that 90 percent of CircuitCity.com orders are expected to ship from its warehouse the same day.
Systemax seems to be banking on the Circuit City brand still having plenty of clout. It’s not alone, since several fallen consumer electronic brands have made a comeback lately.
Even Crazy Eddie is in the process of trying to make a comeback.

This is an example of where i think all the big box stores are headed. Online only. Anyone interested in picking something up locally will find themselves pulling into the parking lot of walmart or costco.
Amazon has a huge head start but i think CC has a shot if they can keep their act together as far as shipping & offer a fair return policy.
I do most of my shopping online. I know i can save money by using using ebay & stores that individuals set up but i prefer to shop at known sites. I always make sure that an item is being sold by Amazon vs a reseller so i think the CC brand will pull some weight as far as consumer confidence.
If they can actually offer “internet pricing” meaning lower than MSRP they will be a hit.
