CEDIA Expo 2010 Attendance Reflects ‘Modest Growth’
CEDIA reports 20,700 attendees and 453 exhibitors at CEDIA Expo 2010 in Atlanta.
The organization adds that the 453 exhibitors at the 2010 show mark a 6 percent increase over 2009 and points out that 20 percent of the attendees were first-timers.
CEDIA Expo 2009’s attendance was down 12 percent; the 2008 show in Denver was down 14 percent with 25,000 attending.
Speculating on attendance was a hot show floor topic as the custom electronics industry rebounds from the recession. Traffic on the floor appeared lively, a factor influenced by the exhibits being condensed to one hall (232,515 net sq. ft. of exhibit space) versus the two used in Atlanta in 2009.
“The steady booth traffic, the increase in exhibiting companies, and the number of new attendees are all early indicators that our industry is poised for a resurgence,” says CEDIA CEO Utz Baldwin.
“The product knowledge and education that attendees take away from CEDIA EXPO 2010 will help them take advantage of emerging opportunities and will position their businesses for continued success.”
InfoComm, the commercial market trade show that most closely resembles CEDIA Expo, returned to growth in 2010 with a 10 percent jump after two years of depleted shows. Just over 32,000 attended that show in Las Vegas.
CEDIA Expo’s growth may have been stunted this year by its return to Atlanta. A CE Pro survey of readers that attended the 2009 Expo shows that 58 percent didn’t like Atlanta as a host city.
The 2011 and 2012 Expos will return to CEDIA’s hometown of Indianapolis.

Apologies ... and thanks for catching my mistake.
I meant “20 percent of the attendees were first timers,” not 20,000.
Fixed in the story.
More obvious than the less than packed show is that CEDIA Expo being four days long is ridiculous. Sunday’s show floor was EMPTY and a complete waste of time and money for exhibiting companies. They need to scale the show back to 3 days.
I agree, 3 days would be more than enough. Also, they have to get the trainings to be better. I had several people who went to trainings and said they were a waste of time and money. There is no way that this was anywhere close to attendance from the past few years. Easily down 10-20% from last year. There was only 1 exhibit hall and Crestron took up a third of it. The whole place was very easy to get around which was nice, but not too many new products being released from manufactures. Next year I’m going for a day if at all. Anything more is a waste of time.
The show was awesome for us. Our booth traffic was up 100% over last year. The attitude of most everyone we spoke with was very positive and very different than last year.
CEDIA did an excellent job of pulling off another great show.

- 20,000 of the attendees were first timers? Only 700 returned from years past?? Hmmm….. might need to check that. It was a very quiet show though…
