Card Access 5-Button ZigBee Fob is Tiny Home Automation Powerhouse
Card Access demos ZigBee-to-IR module, ZigBee range extender and five-button Mini Remote.
Each of the five buttons can be configured to do virtually anything that can be done within Control4—unlock the door, open the garage, launch an “I’m Home” scene, control the audio in the shower?
Huh? Yup, according to Card Access research, the bathroom is the No. 2 place (so to speak) where audio is played.
Kyle Fraughton, representing the company at ISE, says that’s where he likes his tunes. Since the remote is water-resistant, he hangs it over the shower head and uses the buttons to control volume and select sources. He calls the contraption is “mini-remote on a rope.”
“Once you get into the shower you usually don’t have a way to control the audio,” he says, “so you can now turn up the volume, turn down the volume, skip forward or skip back, change playlists [with the remote].”
Also at ISE, Card Access was promoting its relatively new Z2ir ZigBee-to-IR module for getting IR signals to devices where wire can’t be run.
Fraughton also tells us that the company’s ZigBee range extender has been one of the best sellers: “A lot of time dealers use them as insurance—just put one on every job they do.”
