PS3 as Blu-ray Player?
Is anyone recommending the PlayStation 3 as the best Blu-ray player for their customers? It doesn't have RS-232 and has crappy IR connectivity, but it does have Ethernet…

The Blu-ray price index has dropped another 3 percent and 7 percent overall in October, according to the latest report from PriceSCAN.

"Blu-ray players continue to search for a price bottom as we enter the holiday shopping season, and so far without success," says PriceSCAN co-CEO and chief economist Jeff Trester.

"Some of this may be due to limited consumer interest in the technology and/or competition from online alternatives like Netflix's Roku.

"However, in the context of the overall retail weakness we're seeing right now, one has to be concerned this is an indicator of soft demand for leading edge consumer technology.

"It will be interesting to see whether this decline follows through to the Blu-ray equipped PlayStation 3, who's pricing Sony has so far held firm."

Sherwood America and Oppo Digital are reportedly thinking about delaying the release of their Blu-ray players. Both companies are citing falling prices from competitors as the reason for this.

The Blu-ray index, according to PriceSCAN, dropped more than 13 percent in September. The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), however, has contended all along that prices won't drop until volume increases.

I’m loving this Blu-Ray rollercoaster ride.  I bought a Toshiba HD DVD player when it reached $90.  So now I’m going to buy the PS3 when it reaches $199.  Wal-Mart has the PS3 for $399 w/ a $100 gift card.  If they can drop the price to $299 w/ a $100 gift card I’m set.  You can buy a lot of groceries with $100 at Wal-Mart.
