Autonomic Server Blends Cloud, Local Content for Less than $2k
New two-zone Mirage Media Server (MMS-2) aggregates and syncs content from the home network and the cloud, making it available anywhere, anytime.
The Mirage Media Server from Autonomic integrates two-way via RS-232 or IP with some of the most popular home control and multiroom audio systems, including AMX, Crestron, RTI and URC. Or skip the control system and just use an iPad.
Autonomic Controls, which makes some of the best content aggregation software for music lovers, is now offering a multiroom music server for less than $2,000.
The new Mirage Media Server MMS-2 is a two-zone version of the company’s original MMS, now called the MMS-5 (for five zones).
As with the original Mirage Media Server, the MMS-2 synchronizes music from the cloud, the home network and the server’s own 500 GB hard drive, and presents them in a glorious user interface. Users can manage and control their music libraries via an iPad, TV, PC or a number of popular home automation systems.
Like its big brother, the new server automatically copies a user’s content to a secure, online digital locker where it can be accessed and shared with an iPhone, iPad, computer, TiVo, Wii, Playstation, Xbox or other streaming device.
And Autonomic is famous for integrating with iTunes and other Internet sources, which also can be uploaded and shared through the cloud.
The MMS-2 has one digital output for 5.1 surround in the main listening room, plus an independent analog output for feeding into a multiroom audio distribution system.
“We think it’s a perfect fit for either a smaller installation or as a synchronized satellite server in a customer's second home,” says Autonomic CEO Michael de Nigris. “If you have a second home, just plug in a second Mirage server, give it an Internet connection, and within minutes your entire library is available to listen to, even if it’s hundreds of gigabytes.”
At $1,995, the MMS-2 is half the price of the original server and has all of the features except fewer outputs and a smaller hard drive (500 GB vs. 1 TB).
Plus, Autonomic has added some new features to the MMS platform that will be available on the new product and also on the MMS-5 via a firmware update.
First, the MMS will support NAS synchronization “for virtually unlimited storage capacity,” says de Nigris.
Second, a new scheduling feature allows users to schedule any content to play back at any time, in any zone – great for a whole-house alarm clock. Any scheduling request can be communicated to a home-control system.
The MMS platform integrates two-way via RS-232 or IP with some of the most popular home control and multiroom audio systems, including AMX, Crestron, RTI and URC.
Finally, the MMS will be able to synchronize content in iTunes from a Mac.
“Anytime music is ripped or purchased using iTunes, the MMS gets updates from your Mac automatically,” says de Nigris.
The MMS-2 is expected to ship this month.
