Autonomic Partners Demo Two-Way Apple TV
Crestron, AMX, URC controllers can operate Apple TV and receive feedback over the IP network
Autonomic released the Apple TV module for Crestron control systems in June, an industry first, and is following up with an announcement of an AMX version at this week’s CEDIA Expo in Atlanta. Both modules will be demonstrated at Autonomic’s CEDIA, booth #2865, along with the company’s other digital media solutions for Windows Media Center, Pandora, and Sirius/XM broadband audio.
Universal Remote Control has contracted Autonomic to develop a version of the module for the MX-6000, MX-5000 and KP-4000 remote controls, which will be available later this year. An early prototype will be demonstrated at URC’s CEDIA booth.
The Autonomic solution allows control of multiple Apple TV media servers, iTunes running on Mac or PC, and AirTunes devices via Ethernet, enabling multi-zone control and media browsing from any touch panel in the home.
Apple TV with Autonomic’s two way control interface is an exceptional alternative to iPod Docks, which have been popular in the industry because they allow for the integration of purchased iTunes, but their portable nature (when the iPod leaves home, so do the tunes), and limited storage make it an awkward fit in a custom installation.
As a HD movie server, Apple TV is a home run. While manufactures in the custom channel are struggling to develop and sustain products that enable the legal storage and consumption of HD Movies and TV, integrators are discovering that Apple TV might just be the perfect solution – and Autonomic’s IP control modules make it right at home in a custom installation.
Customers can use the device to shop Apple’s enormous collection of HD movies and TV shows, music, podcasts, and audio-books. Using a Crestron or AMX touchpanel, users can then browse their entire music, movie, and TV collection, start playback, and stream content to AirTunes devices throughout the house.
Autonomic Controls publishes digital media control solutions for integrators and manufacturers. Their flagship product, Media Control Server, has become the industry standard for providing two way control of Windows Media Center on control systems such as Crestron, AMX and RTI. Their technologies have been sub-licensed in products manufactured by NuVo, HAI, and Universal Remote Control. Autonomic Controls is located in Armonk, NY.
