Audiovox Changes Name to Voxx; Who Cares?
Audiovox's name-change to its ticker symbol Voxx follows dramatic re-branding of Monster Cable earlier this year.
I get why companies change their names, but does anybody really care beyond the PR and advertising firms who profit from the new logos, mission statements and corporate letterhead?
Audiovox is the latest to announce a “powerful international corporate image” under the new name Voxx, which happens to be the company’s long-time ticker symbol (not to be confused with Voxx the Psychic).
Quoted in the press release, Voxx International CEO Patrick Lavelle explains, “Everything we have and continue to do is about enhancing shareholder value for years to come.”
Since the announcement this morning, VOXX stock is unchanged.
What?! Did shareholders not get the memo?
The name-change follows another drastic re-badging in the A/V industry: Monster Cable is now Monster.
Founder Noel Lee is in good company. He says in that press release, "Monster is doing the same thing today with our name change that Apple did with Apple Computer.”
Just like X-10, which later became X10.
And does anyone remember the old home automation distributor SuMar? Owner Mark changed the company name to JaMar when he left Susan for Jane. Or vice versa.
A few other notables:
On-Q > OnQ > On-Q/Legrand > Legrand
Universal Remote Control > URC
ITI > Interlogix > GE Interlogix > GE Security > Interlogix
AMX > Panja > AMX
ICIA > Infocomm
HA Pro > CE Pro
Ethereal > Metra
Home Theater Specialists of America (HTSA) > Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA)
