Where does your company fit in these trends of the CE Pro 100?

The CE Pro 100 is out, and we've broken down what makes up the companies making the yearly list.

Some of the key data from this year's CE Pro 100:

In total, the CE Pro 100 logged gross custom revenues of $747.8 million, up from $684.8 million last year.

The average CE Pro 100 company earned $7.4 million.

The average revenue per installation is $6,532, a 7-percent increase from last year's $6,106. It also represents a 118-percent boost in two years and a whopping 290 percent increase since 2004.

It should be noted that, back in 2001, when the CE Pro 100 primarily consisted of just traditional high-end A/V companies, the market had not truly yet developed for installing retailers and structured-wiring-based companies; the average installation price was $12,444.

The CE Pro 100 took on a total of 114,495 installation jobs in 2007. Remarkably, even with the slowdown in new housing, that represents a 2-percent increase in total installations over last year.

The average number of installations per company is 1,144.

The largest company reported $37 million in revenue (up from $33 million for No. 1 last year).

The smallest company reported $2.1 million in revenue (up from $1.98 million for No. 100 last year).

Not surprisingly, 20 companies are California-based, and 8 companies are based in Florida. Another 17 members of the CE Pro 100 are located in the Tri-State metro New York City/New Jersey/Connecticut area, with 5 in Texas and 4 in Pennsylvania.

There are also 4 companies based in Arizona.

The average-revenue-per-full-time-employee benchmark is $133,642. That's a 3-percent decrease from last year -- perhaps a sign that the volume portion of the market is being squeezed a bit.

The trend for multiple locations continues. Forty-four companies on the list have more than one business location, up from 38 members three years ago. This trend supports anecdotal data that the path to growth continues to be to expand your geographic territory coverage.

A business location is not necessarily a storefront or showroom; a warehouse or separate office location could also constitute such a location.
