7 LED TVs at CEDIA Expo 2009

We round up 7 LED TVs on display at CEDIA Expo 2009 in Atlanta.

LED TVs certainly had a strong presence at CEDIA Expo 2009 in Atlanta.

Manufacturers are embracing LED TVs because they use a lot less energy and are much thinner than normal LCD TVs, providing consumers with a more energy-efficient display that also can be aesthetically pleasing.

You couldn't get away from LED TVs in Sharp's booth even if you tried, while LG's booth also had LED TVs throughout.

There were no OLED TVs on display at the show. A Sony spokesperson attributed its lack of OLED TVs to the fact that Sony had nothing new to show, while others manufacturers speculated OLED might never take off.

While the following is only a taste of what was on display, we round up LED TVs from the following companies:
  • LG
  • Samsung
  • Sony
  • Sharp
  • Toshiba

You missed one of the best LED sets of the show, Nuvisions 55” that is coming later this year.

For me, LCDs have been a completely unacceptable technology b/c of how bad the picture gets off-center.  I think any LCD that doesn’t allow you to sit off to the side without greatly compromising the picture deserves a horrible PQ rating.  Let’s be serious, why would you want a TV with a great picture quality for just one of the viewers?  Most people enjoy watching TV with friends and family.

Do any of these newer LED TVs rectify that issue?  It is sad that plasma is dying and LCD can’t seem to solve the viewing angle issue.  Can somebody who saw those sets at CEDIA comment on this issue?

I’d also be curious to hear why this isn’t made to be a bigger deal.  I can’t stand it when I’m at a friend’s place and I am off-center and am watching a washed out picture.

Viewing angle? I am still waiting for an LCD that looks acceptable from any angle.

If you ever have a client or friend who thinks they want and LCD.. put a plasma next to it and watch them change their minds.

I pray that plasma has a come back or that some other technology shows up. Until then i am going to continue to stockpile Kuro’s smile.

I saw the new LEDs at CEDIA this year. They looked great. In fact, here in Florida, I’ve been selling them like hotcakes for the past few months. We have probably sold 60 or more with little to no complaints. I will say however that they are subject to out right dying if you dont plug one into a surge protector, hurricanes knocking out power have taken out a few. And the Samsungs have built in RF control that can be a bit of a pain if you are using a control system, which for us is 99% of our business.
