I think as a comunity we are responsible for not
leading the public to understanding that there are true Hi-Fidelity Digital Files out available which sound better than CD. We have failed, we have tekae tne lesser path and said “MP3 is fine”.
Try this test track from Linn records- it’s a 24 bit Studio Master FLAC file, and they aren’t the only ones with incredible sounding content.
Also, Server companies are adding CODECsto play a whole variety of formats- the server race isn’t just towards convenience, now they have the tools to sound better than CD
Try Track 3- Moonlight’s Back In Style

If you don’t havea CODEC to play above, go to
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
and download VLC for your computer- it’s also very flexible for most A / V files

I’m surprised HDMI did not make this list, I consider it to be one of the worst things to ever happen to the industry, or more accurately…to manufacturers who have to support it. HDMI was a step backwards from component or even DVI even if it does offer benefits, they are currently outweighed by the hassles. Darn shame we never got HD-SDI beyond the pro-broadcast world. Hopefully HDMI will improve in the future.
