2Gig Taps iControl/Telguard for 2nd Security & Home Automation Option
Telguard HomeControl combines Telguard cellular radios with iControl cloud-based security and home automation platform, exclusively for 2Gig systems.
Almost since its inception, 2Gig’s self-contained security and home automation system has worked exclusively with Alarm.com for remote monitoring and control. Now there is another option based on the cloud-based platform from iControl.
The new offering, called Telguard HomeControl (press release), employs a cellular radio from Telguard, a division of Telular Corp., and back-end services from iControl—the same platform that powers ADT Pulse (but not the same version behind Comcast/Xfinity, Time Warner Cable, Cox and other cable service providers also served by iControl).
2Gig will create new versions of its security/automation system embedded with a Telguard radio to deliver the new HomeControl service, “giving our dealers another option for cellular connectivity, life safety, interactive services and lifestyle management, in one user interface,” says Duane Paulson, senior vice president of product and market development for Linear, which acquired 2Gig in February 2013.
The solution—currently available exclusively for 2Gig systems—is not unlike earlier versions of Alarm.com, with the ability to integrate alarm systems and cameras with Z-Wave-enabled lights, locks, thermostats and other devices – although Alarm.com has come a long way since the early days and now offers geolocation services and integration with such devices as Lutron RadioRa, car alarms and garage door openers.
Telguard is expected to market the 2Gig/HomeControl solution to its thousands of dealers who already deploy Telguard radios. The company boasts nearly 640,000 subscribers to its cellular security service according to Telular’s Form 8-K dated May 2, 2013.
