Theory Professional (Theory) is now shipping five new amplified loudspeaker controllers in both its DLC and PLC Series. The new PLC controllers expand upon the initial partnership Theory formed with Powersoft back in June 2025.
The DLC lineup comes with a new 8-channel controller while the PLC additions include two 8-channel and two 4-channel models, all of which leverage Powersoft’s Class-D amplification topologies, SmartRail energy-management power supplies, Power Factor Correction and DSP architecture.
Theory DLC-1500.8d Loudspeaker Controller
According to Theory, the DLC-1500.8d can deliver 1,500W into 4 or 8 ohms from any channel pair, or 800W into 2 or 4 ohms all channels driven. The company also touts that the DLC-1500.8d can drive up to 32 Theory 16-ohm loudspeakers in Lo-Z mode, or over 300 direct in Hi-Z mode with no internal transformer required.
The controller comes equipped with upgraded high-current output Euroblock connectors that accept up to 10-gauge wire, along with four channels of Dante and AES67 Audio over IP digital I/O, allowing it to be deployed in more complex distributed audio systems.
The DLC-1500.8d can be configured using its onboard web interface, accessible via wired Ethernet or its onboard Wi-Fi access point. It also includes matrix mixing, priority audio routing and ducking, parametric EQ, delay, gain, and limiter DSP objects to make system optimization easy.
Full API and modules for AMX, Control4, Crestron, Crestron Home, ELAN, Josh.ai, Q-SYS, RTI, and Symetrix are available.
Theory PLC Series Loudspeaker Controllers
The new PLC controllers come with native Dante and AES67 Audio-over-IP networking, joining the growing list of AV components to offer those types of networking capabilities.
PLC 4- and 8-channel loudspeaker controllers are compact (just 1RU) but, according to Theory, are extremely power-dense. The controllers also come with proprietary Theory Loudspeaker presets as well as three configurable 1Gb network ports with 1x PoE.
The four new Theory PLC loudspeaker controller models include:
- PLC-4K8: 8 channels x 500W per channel
- PLC-8K8: 8 channels x 1,000W per channel
- PLC-9K4: 4 channels x 2,250W per channel
- PLC-16K:4 4 channels x 4,000W per channel
All five models mentioned in the article are available now.
