Sometimes it’s the little things that make an A/V rack cool. Get it? Sanus introduced at CEDIA 2011 its new EcoSystem gizmos for 5- and 12-volt electronics, including the company’s own fans and low-voltage lighting. At the core of the EcoSystem line is a 1U multivolt power supply that offers low-voltage outlets and switches on the front and rear. USB ports for charging also grace both sides of the unit. Say goodbye clunky transformers. To complement the power supply, Sanus now offers a range of task lights, fans (three varieties)… View this story

Da-Lite is a leading manufacturer of video projection screens for commercial and residential markets. What was the company worth to Milestone, which announced a “merger” with Da-Lite on Wednesday? The answer: $202.5 million less $94.2 million in debt to be retired by the merged company. The numbers were not easy to ascertain from the convoluted “merger” agreement. I put the term in quotes because the deal seems more like an acquisition by Milestone, the parent company of mount manufacturers Chief and Sanus. Milestone is a subsidiary of Duchossois, which also… View this story

Milestone AV Technologies, the parent company of mount manufacturers Sanus and Chief, announced a merger today with Da-Lite Screen Company, a manufacturer of video projection screens. Both companies make products primarily for the middle market and “both of our businesses today are very dealer-centric,” said Milestone CEO Scott Gill in an interview with CE Pro. Even though the companies are calling the transaction a “merger,” Da-Lite will operate under the Milestone umbrella. Milestone has been on a quest to acquire companies since Chief and Sanus merged into Milestone AV in… View this story

You get points for originality when you enter a flat-panel mounting contest. Take the winning installation, announced at CEDIA Expo, of the second annual Mount This! contest. It's not often you see a 90-pound flat panel mounted on a log that looks more suited to hold a missing cat flyer. You get points for saving space. Take the second-place installation, which mounts a TV on the side of a staircase. You also get points for blending, which is featured in the third-place installation. If you were on a treasure hunt… View this story

Sometimes hanging a flat-panel TV can be a challenge. And that's part of the fun being a CE pro, getting an unusual request to conceal a video wall in the ceiling and have it drop down at the press of a button. CE Pro and Chief are looking for more interesting/challenging flat-panel mounting jobs in the second annual Mount This! contest. Submissions are due August 16, 2010 for a chance to be featured in the November issue of CE Pro magazine and win an Exotics Racing Ultimate Driving Experience and… View this story

Plus, two new rear mounted racks to free up space have been co-developed and one was on display in SurgeX’s booth. Shannon Townley, SurgeX’s senior VP of sales demonstrated the solution, showing how the rack’s rear door has integrated power outlets to preserve component space. Statement from Townley… View this story

How do you find the perfect mount for the shape, size, weight and application of your flat-panel display? Just a few years back, finding a mount to pair with your LCD or plasma display was like finding a fuel pump for your '96 Mazda 626. Not only did you need something specific to your model, there was a decent chance some random manufacturing change mid-cycle could throw a huge wrench in your search. Luckily, in recent years, most TV manufacturers have centralized around VESA standards and mount manufacturers have moved… View this story
