Universal’s First Blu-ray Titles Coming July 22
Biggest HD DVD backer will release first BD titles starting this summer.
Universal's first Blu-ray movies will be available on July 22, with a total of 40 titles coming during the second half of the year, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The biggest studio backer of HD DVD will release "The Mummy," "The Mummy Returns," and "The Scorpion King" as its first BD titles, with other back catalog films like "Knocked Up," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin," "Miami Vice" and more coming later this year.
New Blu-ray releases will be released the same day as their DVD counterparts, kicking off with "Doomsday" and adding the summer popcorn flicks "The Incredible Hulk," "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" and "Mamma Mia," among others.
Universal had backed HD DVD since the format's introduction and was the only studio to support it throughout its entire lifetime. When Toshiba officially announced it was ending support for the format, Universal and Paramount lined up with the Blu-ray camp.
No word on when the first season of NBC's Heroes, still $70 on HD DVD, will make its Blu-ray debut.

I will never buy a Toshiba Product again, after what they did with HD-DVD. I preferred them from SONY.
This is what SONY did with Betamax, but at least they kept supporting it to the very end not like Toshiba.
The hell with them.(Toshiba)
Steve, what are you talking about? What did you want Toshiba to do to “support” HD DVD? Buy four movie studios?
They’re still releasing firmware updates on players they’ve discontinued, for goodness sakes. I don’t know what else you want - if people don’t make the movies, how is Toshiba to sell HD DVD players?
I meant Chris.
