TiVo Posts $2.9M Loss; Files Lawsuits Against AT&T, Verizon
Claims AT&T and Verizon violated three DVR-related patents and is seeking damages and a permanent injunction.
TiVo is reporting a $2.9 million loss in its fiscal second quarter ended July 31, adding that sales were lower than expected.
TiVo, which has also filed lawsuits against AT&T and Verizon for allegedly violating three DVR-related patents, saw revenues fall in the second quarter to $48.8 million from $53.5 million in the same quarter of 2008.
The $2.9 million loss is compared to a $2.9 million net income in the second quarter of 2008. TiVo-owned subscription gross additions for the quarter were about 31,000, compared to 36,000 additions in the second quarter of 2008. Total TiVo subscriptions as of July 31, 2009 were approximately 3 million.

- Patent No. 7,529,465 B2 ("System for Time Shifting Multimedia Content Streams")
- Patent No. 7,493,015 B1 ("Automatic Playback Overshoot Correction System")
