TiVo’s HD XL DVR stores more than 150 hours of HD content.

09.03.2008 — TiVo has launched its new TiVo HD XL Digital Video Recorder, which the company says offers more recording capacity than other available DVRs.

The THX-Certified DVR, being displayed here at CEDIA Expo 2008 (booth 1083), stores more than 150 hours of HD content and has one HDMI cable.

TiVo HD XL also boasts dual tuners so users can record two different HD shows at the same time, while watching a third pre-recorded show.

TiVo, which just reported profits in Q2, says the HD XL offers enough storage to "appease even the most devoted entertainment fans."

"What is great about the XL is it gives content lovers plenty of room for all the programming they love, saving them from having to decide if they need to prematurely delete a favorite movie or a big game memory when space gets tight," says Andrew Morrison, director of product platforms at TiVo.

Other features of the TiVo HD XL include:
  • Compatibility with HD digital cable, analog cable and ATSC
  • Series3 premium backlit remote control
  • Season Pass recordings, Universal Swivel Search and WishList searches
  • Download movies and TV shows directly to TV and support of YouTube videos
  • Support of Rhapsody and Music Choice
The Tivo HD XL is available online for $599.99. TiVo says other retailers will offer the solution starting as early as next week.

TiVo Teams Up with DirecTV

TiVo also announced it has collaborated with DirecTV to offer the new HD DirecTV DVR.

The "non-exclusive agreement" will offer a version of TiVo's HD service specifically designed for DirecTV subscribers.

The HD DirecTV DVR will feature TiVo's Universal Swivel Search and TiVo KidZone.

"We have had a very successful history with DirecTV," says TiVo CEO and president Tom Rogers.

"Together we brought the TiVo experience to millions of DirecTV customers and now we look forward to launching a next-generation product that uses TiVo's latest features to truly showcase DirecTV's broad selection of high-definition programming — all stitched together with the elegance of TiVo's renowned user experience."

TiVo says the DirecTV DVR will ship in the second half of 2009.
