LAS VEGAS – Samsung Electronics, the leader in the U.S digital television market, now looks to introduce consumers to the next generation of home theater entertainment with its Digital Media Adapter (DMA). Featuring Microsoft’s Extender for Windows Media Center technology, Samsung’s DMA delivers content from the Internet which will allow consumers the ability to experience a wealth of content offerings on a Samsung HDTV through select PCs running Microsoft Windows Vista Operating System. Samsung’s DMA will be on display at Booth #11033 during the International Consumer Electronics Show held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, January 7 through 10.
“Samsung wants its customers to further enjoy their new HDTV by bridging it to their PC. This will allow one to enjoy a wide range of entertainment which includes their personal media as well as a wealth of on-line entertainment from Microsoft’s media partners” said John Revie, vice president of Visual Display Marketing at Samsung Electronics America. “The world of online content growing at an exponential rate, and Samsung’s DMA will be the cornerstone for home entertainment, enabling consumers to enjoy digital content on the couch, not at a desk.”
When paired with select 2008 model Samsung HDTVs, Samsung’s DMA allows near effortless navigation and management of multimedia content stored on or streamed from an Internet connected PC running Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium or Ultimate operating systems. From music and movies, to news, sports and gaming content, Samsung’s DMA is a plug-and-play gateway solution that exponentially increases consumer home theater options.
Employing Microsoft’s simple-to-master user interface and free of charge electronic program guide, content browsing and playback is easily controlled using the arrow and enter buttons available on either the included remote control, or the Samsung HDTV remote control.
“Microsoft is pleased to have the support of Samsung, a consumer electronics partner known for delivering a top-notch experience, for the Extender for Windows Media Center technology,” said Enrique Rodriguez, corporate vice president, Connected TV Division, Microsoft Corp. “We’re seeing the industry recognize the importance of delivering an integrated solution to link your PC and your TV.”
The Samsung Home DMA features playback codecs for both streaming and stored files, including WMV, MPEG2, MPEG4, H.264, MP3, AC3, WMA and JPEG to match the various formats available online today.
The compact device can be easily mounted to the rear of select Samsung flat-panel TVs for a clutter-free home theater setup. Operational commands are sent to the DMA via HDMI-CEC with both the TV remote and the included Simple Remote. The device connects to a PC via a RJ45 connected LAN cable OR 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless module (sold separately).
The Samsung Home Digital Media Adapter (DMA) and optional wireless module will be available in April 2008.
