Revenues from Commercial Automation Installs to Double By 2021

Revenues from commercial building automation system installations will double in the next decade, from about $72.5 billion in 2011 to $146.4 billion in 2021, according to a new report by Pike Research.

This represents an intriguing opportunities for residential integrators making a push into commercial circles. Revenue for residential integrators in commercial space has grown from 24 percent in 2009 to about 37 percent in 2011.

Commercial buildings consume roughly 23 percent of all electricity globally, according to the report, so “automation systems that ensure efficient performance are a critical part of energy management.”

The recent surge in the capabilities of automation systems is being driven by aggressive energy efficiency goals and the fact that building automation controls and field devices are more regularly IP-equipped today.

Pike Research's report, “Commercial Building Automation Systems,” analyzes the global market for commercial building automation and management systems including security and access, HVAC controls, fire and life safety, building management systems, and lighting controls.
