VidaBox has added Blu-ray and HD DVD ripping and streaming capabilities to its media centers, which will be on display in Demo Alley room 240A at EHX this week.
The systems play back unencrypted high-definition titles from the hard drive either in native folders or in the ISO format, which requires an optional virtual mounting tool, says VidaBox's Steven Cheung.
But just how many unencrypted high-def movies are available?
"I haven't done the research yet, but agree that there probably aren't too many unencrypted titles available in either format," writes Cheung in an email to CE Pro.
"However, if our systems are being purchased by someone who is not under the scope of DCMA or similar law (e.g. an overseas customer), they can install a third-party decrypter and backup their encrypted movie titles.
With VidaBox's extender units, up to 10 streams can be running simultaneously throughout a home.
