The 40-inch plasma TV index has dropped 3 percent after "relative stability" through the holidays, according to
PriceSCAN.
PriceSCAN says the index dropped 3.4 percent in the last week, following a 2 percent decline during holiday shopping.
Analysts were predicting
cheap holiday prices on HDTVs, and, according to ABI Research, 18 percent of holiday shoppers
planned on buying a TV.
Good signs for those integrators who
hang and bang. Overall holiday sales, however, decreased as the CEA lowered its forecast to
0.1 percent growth.
Hopefully some integrators capitalized on the
holiday HDTV sales.
"In the wake of a dismal holiday season, vendor desire to slash unsold inventory may be combining with the challenge from LCD technology to produce greater downward pressure on plasma television prices," says PriceSCAN co-CEO and chief economist Jeff Trester.
