Pepcom Holiday Spectacular Showcases Latest Products
Pepcom's annual show offers a glimpse of products available for the holidays.
Pepcom's Holiday Spectacular offers an opportunity to see some of the latest electronics that will be available for the holiday season.
Here's a look at some of the products that were on hand at the show recently held in New York.
Although the Belkin FlyWire was demoed at CEDIA Expo 2008, the company had a final version of the unit at Pepcom, and it worked pretty well.
The two-piece system accepts up to three HDMI sources, two component sources and either an SVHS or composite input and switches and transcodes all sources.
The unit's remote has learnable discrete IR codes, which are wirelessly passed.
Belkin's FlyWire transmits signals in the 5GHZ range at full 1080P/24fps. The transmitter has an SD card slot that enables future firmware upgrades, such as the ability to use more than one receiver in a house.
The Belkin FlyWire is a great problem solver for apartments or residences where running wire is not possible.
Belkin also showed its Powerline AV+, its newest Ethernet over power-line adapter that is HomePlug AV certified.
It offers 200Mbps speed and a built-in three port hub to enable streaming of HD content from a computer to an entertainment system.
Belkin also showcased its F5D8235-4 N+ Wireless Router that is vertically oriented with four Gigabit Ethernet port and a USB port to attach storage devices and front-panel icons.
Other features include:
SRS Labs is releasing a Windows Version of its iWOW iTunes Plug-In with SRS technology.
The SRS technology — the same included on TVs — improves the sound produced from speakers.
This Windows version will have a new interface and should be ideal for Media Center installs where a sound card drives multiple zones of two-channel distributed audio.
A consortium called the Wireless Working Group was promoting UWB (ultra-wide band), the wireless USB standard. UWB is intended for short wireless connections of less than 30 feet with speeds faster than Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
D-Link showed its DUB-9420 Wireless USB Starter Kit, which includes a Wireless USB Adapter (DUB-1210) and a Wireless USB 4-Port Hub (DUB-2240).
The DUB-2240 connects USB devices in a 30-foot range together and enables streaming from any USB device in a room. Clients can have up to three 4-port hubs per transmitter for elaborate USB applications.
