Lutron’s Green Trifecta: Lights, Shades, Thermostats
At CEDIA Expo 2009, Lutron unveiled its full suite of energy-saving products including wireless lighting control, motorized shades and thermostats
Lutron thermostats can be triggered by the company’s new RF temperature and photocell sensors.
We won't repeat the extensive coverage we've already provided on Lutron's RadioRa 2 and Homeworks QS Wireless, but we haven't said much about the company's new thermostats.
At CEDIA Expo 2009, the company revealed its first HVAC controllers – a long time coming for a company that has green written all over it.
Lutron's thermostats are unusual. They have no LCD readouts of the temperature. Instead, the basic thermostat looks much like a Lutron dimmer, with two banks of LEDs indicating the current temperature and setting.
In addition to its own products (see slideshow), Lutron was showing two-way control of third-party thermostats that do have LCD displays. In one demo, Lutron was communicating with a Z-Wave stat via Homeseer automation software.
Lutron appears to be the only company right now that hits three key energy-saving systems in one package: lights, motorized shades and temperature control.

So what is the benefit of the remote temp sensor when it’s bigger and uglier than their thermostats? Maybe they didn’t want to get sued by all of the companies that use flush mount sensors. You know the Karma is a comin!
