KEF Adds 14 Speakers to Custom Installation Line

KEF is continuing to revamp its line of architectural speaker products through the introduction of 14 new products.

The Ci160CL is one of 14 new products KEF is introducing to help bolster its architectural line of loudspeaker products.

KEF has introduced two series of architectural loudspeakers - the Q Series and C Series - that offer square- and rectangular-shaped speakers with ultra thin bezels.

The ultra thin bezels and magnetic grilles on the new rectangle and square Ci Series models are designed to blend into a home's decor, allowing installers to place the loudspeakers throughout the home. KEF says the Ci Series' grille treatments allow the speakers to be placed in humid/moist environments such as bathrooms, patios and porches, and boats.

KEF's Q Series Custom Installation (Ci) speakers feature the company's Uni-Q driver array that places the tweeter in the acoustic center of the woofer. KEF says this allows both the woofer and tweeter to act as a single, focused source of sound that is dispersed widely and evenly throughout a room.

“[Our] research on how speakers interact with walls and ceilings has led to the development of many technologies that are implemented in the Ci speakers to enhance the Uni-Q,” says Kroll. “One such example is forward woofer mounting. When you have a speaker flush with the surface of the wall, the baffle of the wall helps the off-axis response. If you recess the drivers, it has the opposite effect and narrows that off-axis response. Our latest engineering pushes the drivers forward to enhance the response of the Uni-Q. That’s one example of about a dozen technologies that have been refined for our latest generation Ci speakers.”

The C Series speakers include an asymmetrical tweeter island to deliver sound that reduces diffraction and enhances off-axis, high frequency response.

“Square [speakers] are interesting for KEF because the tweeter is located in the center of the woofer. With Uni-Q we can produce an exceptional sounding speaker and one of the benefits of using Uni-Q within a square speaker is that it has the versatility of being able to being used in a wall or ceiling. These speakers are also shallow enough to be used in a wall.”

Select models of KEF new Ci Series are available now, while the entire range will be available in Spring of 2012. Kroll says dealers can get a look at the new products at EHX in Orlando on March 15-17.
