Destination’s ALW583 L/R Speakers Eliminate Need for Center Channel

When framing, mantles, furniture and other obstacles won't allow a center speaker, Destination's left/right in-walls provide a virtual center channel

Two ALW583 side channels create a virtual center channel.

When a center channel simply cannot be installed in the right place, Destination Audio's new ALW583 in-wall speakers can effectively create a center channel from the left and right speakers.

Sometimes it can be darn near impossible to install a center speaker in the right place, what with wall framing, fireplace mantles, furniture and other obstacles.

In those instances, Destination claims that its ALW583s "can adequately provide a discreet center channel from the left and right front speaker without the use of a separate center channel speaker.”

How does it work? Marketing director Daren Egan explains to CE Pro:

The ALW583 has two sets of inputs. One input is for the upper section which includes the two woofers and upper tweeter. The other input is for the lower woofer and tweeter section. When used in a pair, the left ALW583 is wired to both the left and center channel outputs of the surround receiver or amplifier. The right ALW583 is then wired to both the right and center channel outputs. This allows each speaker to play the discrete center channel output, thereby creating a virtual center channel. To further increase performance, each of the ALW583's tweeters can be swiveled to direct the high frequencies to the listening location.

Each speaker has three of Destination's proprietary 5.25-inch "aluminized" fiberglass matrix cone woofers and two 1-inch nano-silk swivel tweeters.

The ALW583's high-frequency sound contour can be adjusted from just behind the perforated aluminum grille, and both the grille and the outer frame can be painted to coordinate with the design of the room they're installed into.

The ALW583 can handle up to 150 Watts, has a frequency response of 55Hz-20kHz ±3dB, and is 28.125 inches tall by 7.125 inches wide.

The suggested retail price for the ALW583 is $358 each, and it is expected to ship later this month.
