Circuit City Closes for Good on March 8
We've heard and read that it's been among the most underwhelming liquidations, with some people even finding themselves having purchased shattered TVs or searching sticker prices that weren't even up to par with Amazon.
Some of the 567 stores that were being liquidated since mid-January have already closed.
Circuit City was liquidating around $1.7 billion in inventory over the last two months. So did you score any good deals on unbroken TVs, or other electronics like PCs, audio gear or anything else?

Underwhelming is an understatement. Went to our local CC to get a new monitor for my computer. They had “liquidation” prices on 19” AO monitors at $249. What a joke! And all of their CD and DVDs had up-priced at above retail and with just a 30% discount still made them $3-4 above what you would normally pay at BestBuy.
I bought display items like free-standing mounts, area carpets, display backdrops and display shelving.
Also got warehouse stuff like rolling steps, shelves, giant trash can on wheels and more…
Did NOT buy any electronic items since the discount wasn’t enough to take the risk.
I wanted the big box of 3m component a/v cable, but they wanted to much ($70). Going back tomorrow or Sunday and see what they’ll take.
I picked up several Audio Authority component video distribution amps for $30/ea. pretty sure every store had them.
They wanted $70 a week ago for the component distribution amps.
Going back today (last day) and offer them $20.
Just got back from the last day, got 2 of the 4output component distribution amps and 12 Calrad 3m Component a/v cables for $50!!!
At 1:30 on Sunday, their wasn’t much left. Everything was within 25’ of the registers. Guy said they sold the last TV’s Saturday, 42 total on Friday and Saturday.
I picked up some DVDs for $5.00 that would have cost me over $30.00 a month ago. At least I got something.
Got to lover the “bottom feeders” of the CE marketplace. Always wanting something for nothing. Just another reason for the shrinking of the CE industry. The funny thing is that allot of them keep falling for these phony liquidation sales over and over.
Not much worth the effort until it was 70% off or more, that when it all started really moving. 50% off for LCD TVs that were priced 3x ones at Costco was not very inspiring. Picked up some DVDs for 80% off that were finally well priced. Also a radar detector at 60% off that was truly the only good deal, otherwised mostly overpriced crap to the end.
I went into the Circuit City srore in Tampa,Fl and found many ink cartidges for only $10 each so I bought 8 of them. When i got home i installed them to find that NONE of them had ink in them so I took one apart and found nothing but a dried up piece of rubbery looking stuff. I went back to the store and the manager told me “all sales final” I said, even on defective “JUNK”. he said ,“yes”. So Beware of liquidation junk, and certainly don’t buy anything like electronics unless you test it first and get a warranty from someplace that’s still in business. My big screen Tv has a 3 year warranty and WHO will service that since i bought it there a year ago.
Live and learn!

One of our local clients is a wine and grape analyis lab here in Paso Robles, Ca. The owners of the lab are expanding their operation to include a new location selling wine making supplies in the Sata Ynez market to our south. While in Sonoma last week, we saw the local CC store closing sale and bought store front welcome desk and several display shelving systems for the new location. The cost was, let’s just say very, very, very, very, very cheap. No electronics though.
