Be a consultant to your client. Put yourself in their shoes.
They want an expert. They want a good price.They don’t want to be oversold.They want someone who understands them and their needs, and is helpful and not condescending — someone who can give them the best “bang for the buck.”
What trade tip can you offer your fellow CE pros?
Be consistent. Every job is important.
What’s the wildest request you’ve ever had for an installation?
We have discussed putting a wireless camera into the engine of a model railroad — “The Train Channel.”
What is your 3D strategy and do you think the technology will live up to the hype? Our strategy is to come out of the gate as the experts in 3D installation. What I have seen so far is very impressive. Public interest is high.
What is your absolute favorite piece of audio demo material?
I like to play something the customer may have already heard on an inferior system. I like the SACD of Diana Krall “East of the Sun (and West of the Moon)”
What is your absolute favorite piece of video demo material?
The (mob) bank robbery at the beginning of The Dark Knight … one of the most compelling scenes in movie history. It looks great; it sounds great; and it just kicks butt.
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I was a young entrepreneur. At 16, I sold Sony Discman CD players with powered speakers as office music systems.
