Blu-ray Releases on Oct. 27, 2009
Maybe it's appropriate for Halloween week, but this week's Blu-ray releases are frighteningly bad.
There are a few scary movies in there, like Night of the Creeps, The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue and the spoof Stan Helsing ... but c'mon, it's Halloween, there are plenty of horror movies yet to be released on high-def that would have been perfect for this week. Look for our list marking those later this week.
At least music fans can rejoice this week. There is a killer Steve Vai show due out, Where the Wild Things Are, capturing the guitar virtuoso in high-resolution glory.
However, most of this week's music Blu-rays feature lofty names such as Wagner, Strauss, Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky, which are sure to help take you to musical nirvana if you appreciate the finer compositions.
Sci-fi fans also get a little bit of love with Stargate and Battlestar Galactica: The Plan. And kids will enjoy the Ice Age and Tinker Bell releases in the splendid HD animation.
If you're looking for a scary movie on Halloween, we recommend popping in a classic like Halloween or Friday the 13th, both of which are already on Blu-ray.
