AMX/Autopatch 8x8 HDMI Switcher: Goodbye HDMI Lags
AMX's new Instagate technology mitigates the painful switching lags of typical HDMI switcher
Look ma, no switching lags
Probably the coolest thing at AMX's CEDIA booth is the new Optima 8x8 HDMI switcher from Autopatch.
The product solves the big HDMI switching lag that haunts other switchers.
In a demo at the booth, AMX's Paul Hand showed how quickly the TV responds when an HDMI source is switched -- about one second. And … there is no disruption of the other TVs connected to the switcher.
With other switchers, you'd suffer through a 7- or 10-second delay while the TV re-authenticates HDCP.
"We're continuously validating all of the connections," Hand says.
AMX calls the switching technology Instagate.
It is also employed in the company's new UTPro 0808 switcher, which is a full-blown AMX NetLinx control system, HDMI switcher and whole-house Cat 5 distribution system.
It ships with the eight NetLinx end points to connect to remote TVs.
Sure, Crestron showed a similar HDMI switching product, DigitalMedia, at CEDIA 2008, but the UTPro "is extremely affordable," says Hand.
It is expected to retail for $6,900.

I’m psyched for 8x8 HDMI, but I have to say the ‘Just Add Power’ booth with the HDMI over IP is far cooler. Its in exhibit hall B.
