$8.5B Las Vegas CityCenter Banks on Control4
When guests enter more than 4,300 CityCenter and Aria guest rooms the lights gradually come on, the drapes open and the TV displays a list of automated controls.
Guests can control their HVAC, lighting, television, drapery, interact with guest services and more.
The new mega-resort is opening with much fanfare, especially since its reported $8.5 billion construction price tag brings considerable pressure to succeed in the midst of the U.S. recession.
As part of the system, an automated “welcome experience” activates when guests open the door to their rooms.
The lights gradually come on.
The drapes open.
The TV turns on to display a list of automated controls.
Guest will use a single remote and Control4 on-screen view to use the TV to set the systems in their rooms to their personal preferences, including lighting levels, room temperature, television/video systems, music, drapes and guest services.
Other features include:
- A “good night” scene button on the touchscreen next to the bed, which turns off the lights, TV and/or music; closes the drapes; and turns on the privacy notification for the room.
- A “wake-up” scene where lights and music gradually come on, the temperature comes up, and the drapes open.
- After a guest has checked out, a room can quickly be put in “unoccupied” mode, which shuts off the lights, heating or cooling, entertainment systems, and any other electronic device in the room.
- Integration with property management systems to deliver concierge-type services, as well as automate the guestroom, based on check-in/check-out status.
- Sending an alert to the technical systems staff regarding problems in the room, such as low batteries in remotes.
Will West, CEO of Control4, says, “Not only has the bar on guest services been raised, but we’re also truly making an impact on cost savings and green initiatives — making this a win for both CityCenter and CityCenter guests.”

Part of the "welcome experience," guests are greeted with these on-screen control options.

I would hope that a 13k panel would be a better looking panel then 1,200 dollar panel.
But IMO I would rather have 13 panels which look what control4 panels look like then a single crestron panel.
Anyone know when this project will be done? Might be worth a trip to Vegas to see how it operates.
Looks like Blackman Signature Designs is designing the interface. Smart move for C4 to hire a professional. http://www.blackmancustoms.com/index2.htm
I really hope this works out for the best, I really do. BUT… being a control4 (crash4 as we joke about it here) dealer, I cant seem to come out on the plus side on any of the jobs we have sold or installed. “Simple” programming that requires 2+ hours on the phone with tech support, two different tech support guys telling us different ways to incorrectly get something fixed; if it wasnt for our C4 rep, we would be screwed! Its a nice entry level product, but to have to search the forums in order to get the answers you need seems like the product still isnt ready for prime time.
I am amazed by how most of these comments are completely wrong! This is why I hate reading posts.
You have all these people trying to swing their bat and say their two cents, when you haven’t even been to the ball park. I can sit here and bash all these companies, but that wouldn’t change anything.
Please use these forums as a way to make this industry better, not bashing everyone!
Take it from me, someone who helped design and engineer most of what happens in LV….
Control4 boasting that they have the most energy effecient zigbee system in vegas….
Wisuite (Canadian Company) installed the Venetian with a full zigbee energy management automation system which is running I think for over a year now. That system doesn’t seem to involve the same level of automation as the C4 system but is nearly as big in size to the city center install.
have you owned control4? i stayed a week in a room with control4 and not a single hiccup
this is something i am getting in my house this summer, pull out my crestron over priced garbage immediately
We just stopped carrying Control4. C4 has been a guarenteed money loser for us job after job. Poor quality, poor performance, limited potential.

Remember people you get what you pay for. Good quality products cost good quality money. There is no comparison between C4 and Crestron. It’s like comparing JV football to the NFL.
