Walt Zerbe is rejoining Legrand as product manager starting April 23, 2012. Zerbe previously served as product manager for OnQ/Legrand for seven years. Zerbe left Legrand in 2007 to join Russound, but he was recently dismissed as part of a larger layoff that included two other product managers. Zerbe, who will be based out of Legrand's headquarters in Middletown, Pa., will be responsible for the implementation of new audio and entertainment products, with equal focus on innovation and real-world applications. “With audio consumption on the rise and digital communications now…

One of the industry's most likable guys, Walt Zerbe, was honored last night with the Consumer Electronics Association's 2012 TechHome Leadership. Zerbe has been involved in the custom electronics and pro A/V business for 25 years -- more if you count his years of tinkering before starting a home systems integration firm. Currently, he is a product manager for multiroom A/V manufacturer Russound, where he has worked for five years following a…

The Home Audio Division division of the Consumer Electronics Association used to be a little snooty, with most board members representing high-performance brands and catering to discriminating listeners. Today, however, the tide is shifting in CEA’s audio group, with the majority of participants embracing imperfect sources, younger (poorer) customers and “gateway audio drugs” such as headphones and iPod docks. “The interest lies in expanding the definition of audio,” said board member Al Baron of Polk Audio, during a division meeting held at CEA’s annual Industry Forum this week. “That’s a…
