Panasonic is one of the largest consumer electronics companies in the entire world, and in the world of home video, it is also one of the most aggressive companies. Showing its leadership in the home video category and more specifically the television category, the company recently announced some of its 2012 new products. Augmenting its ST50, UT50 and XT50 plasma television lines, as well as its E50, ET5, E5 and X5 LED television series, the company says the LED models will feature two new screen sizes: 47 inches and 55… View this story

Panasonic E50 Series LED TVs
Grant Clauser | 01/12 02:49 PM, 0 Comments
While known primarily for its plasma TVs among video enthusiasts, Panasonic launched a line of 3D LED LCD TVs with passive 3D technology at CES 2012. A Panasonic rep said the company wants to give consumers a wider choice of options. Panasonic wants customers to know that the best picture quality will come from the active-shutter glasses plasma TVs, but if the convenience of cheap polarized glasses appeals to people, Panasonic will give them that on the ET5 series LED TVs. Panasonic also introduced a 55-inch LED, beating out its… View this story

Panasonic's VIERA Connect smart TV platform is getting smarter, adding the Internet Social Network app to all its 2011 VIERA TVs and subsequent models. The app works with social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, allowing users to watch TV while navigating their status updates or poking friends. "Our thorough research pointed to a desire to be able to watch content on the TV, while at the same time being able to tweet on Twitter or update your status on Facebook," says Panasonic North America VP, Merwan Mereby. "With that… View this story

While there are three major TV manufacturers - LG, Panasonic, Samsung - still producing plasma TVs, one of those three is scaling back considerably on its output. Panasonic, according to Reuters, will reduce plasma TV production and cut its workforce by about 1,000. Reuters describes Panasonic’s plasma TV business as a “loss-making television unit.” Panasonic will stop making plasmas at its Amagasaki No. 3 factory by the end of March 2012, according to Reuters, which also speculates that Panasonic plans to sell off an LCD factory. Panasonic AR100U Projector
Grant Clauser | 09/09 09:53 AM, 0 Comments
While many of the projector manufacturers CEDIA Expo 2011 were showing off 3D models, Panasonic launched a 2D projector for flat movie fans. The new 1080p AR100U LCD projector (MSRP of $1,999) packs solid picture specs with 2,800 lumens and 50,000:1 contrast ratio. The bright image means it will work in various lighting levels, making it good for family rooms that aren’t always 100-percent theater dark. It even includes a Sports mode to minimize frame delay making fast motion clearer. A feature called Light Harmonizer 3, which includes ambient light… View this story

It was only late in 2010 that Panasonic was criticized for giving Best Buy’s Magnolia Home Theater the first crack at 3D, rather than the specialty channel. Richard Glikes, executive director of the Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA), a group representing about 60 top integrators, wrote an open letter to the industry, chiding manufacturers for ignoring the custom channel. In the letter, he called 3D and Google TV “stillborn” technologies because vendors chose the big-box channel as opposed to the custom channel to debut them. The letter was much… View this story

Universal 3D Glasses
Steve Crowe | 08/09 07:11 AM, 1 Comment
Panasonic, Samsung, Sony and XpanD are joining forces to develop a standard for active 3D glasses. The new standard, called "Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative," will develop and license radio frequency (RF) 3D active glasses technology and "multiple types of infrared (IR) system protocols." Currently, 3D glasses from a given company generally don't work with other manufacturers' TVs. This initiative aims to bring 3D glasses to the market that can be used on any new 3D TV. According to the companies, the Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative is targeted to… View this story

Consumers have a lot of options when it comes to plasma TVs, but one brand is clearly leading the pack. Samsung has taken over the top spot from Panasonic, according to the NPD Group, accounting for 41.3 percent of plasma TV sales in the U.S. and nearly a quarter of all flat-panel TV sales in the U.S. Samsung is also leading the plasma market in terms of dollar value with 45.2 market share. During the first four months of 2011, Samsung’s market share improved by 2.8 percentage points, compared to… View this story

What do you do when you have an entire ecosystem of solutions for energy management, networking, security and digital health care solutions for homes, businesses and community-wide infrastructure? You build a whole new community. Panasonic and eight other companies are doing just that, spearheading the Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town (SST) in Japan. The smart town will feature widespread use of energy-saving devices and solutions that integrate energy creation, storage and management, Panasonic says.
