Can someone please explain the stock market to me? Harman International Industries' (NYSE: HAR) stock is skyrocketing. The stock is up 43 percent in the past two weeks, rising from $26.20 on October 3 to $37.47 on October 14, as of press time. The rise comes despite the fact that Harman announced in mid-August that its profits slumped 86 percent vs. the prior year; but Harman did report better-than-expected fourth quarter revenues due to international sales. As a result of that news, Relational Investors LLC increased its stake in the… View this story

There are a lot of reasons for the optimism Jim Garrett, market manager for Harman’s high-performance audio/video division (HPAV), is expressing as the company prepares for CEDIA Expo 2011 Garrett concedes that Lexicon, a Harman brand, has had a rough time the past couple of years due to the complacency of its line and a damaging review of a Lexicon Blu-ray player. He says Lexicon is moving ahead and is developing a new home theater processor. “We are going to publicly announce we’re working on a Lexicon processor, the MP20… View this story

Using its proprietary DriveCore technology that was co-developed with Texas Instruments, the amplifier is rated to deliver 125-watts to each of its eight channels. The compact, rack-friendly amplifier's dimensions are 1.7-inches high by 17.3-inches wide and 14.9-inches deep, and it weighs under 10 pounds. Engineered to run coolly, Lexicon says the amp… View this story

Some of the best consumer electronics research data comes from the respected manufacturer Harman International. Recently, the company undertook a study in which it examined the possibility of any correlation between the age of a listener and the level of audio resolution that is preferred. Following the conclusion of its research, Sean Olive, director of acoustic research for Harman International, discussed the company’s findings, which to some may be surprising. Don’t blame the young Over the past several years the crusty folks in the audiophile community may have been unjustly… View this story
