Admittedly, Sandy Gross should be sitting on a beach somewhere enjoying his retirement. After all, the audio pioneer already has an impressive resume built at Polk Audio and Definitive Technology. At Polk, Gross was in charge of marketing and product concepts. In 1988, he left for a stint in Hollywood and then founded Def Tech in 1990, retiring as president in 2009. Two years ago, Gross started his third loudspeaker company, GoldenEar Technology. Gross spoke with CE Pro about mega-trends in the audio market and why he came out of… View this story

Showing just how popular it has become within a short amount of time, the Stevenson, Md.-based loudspeaker company, GoldenEar Technology introduced its latest product, the new Triton Seven floorstanding loudspeaker during the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). GoldenEar says the Triton Seven provides homeowners with a more affordable and compact Triton speaker that includes many technologies developed for its more expensive Triton Two and Triton Three flagship products minus the more expensive products’ inclusion of built-in powered subwoofers. The Triton Seven employs a cabinet shape that GoldenEar says serves the… View this story

The new Triton Seven speakers from Goldenear, debuting at CES 2013, look pretty much like the original Triton Two towers, except they’re a little bit smaller. But the new speaker is $699 each and the original is $2,500. We asked Goldenear founder Sandy Gross to explain the difference in price. “They sound very similar,” he says. “They’re using similar drivers and similar voicing, but the larger ones obviously will play louder and have deeper bass.” For those listening at “relatively low levels or with less demanding program material, they would… View this story

GoldenEar Technology will celebrate its third International CES with the introduction of two new loudspeakers: the Triton Seven, a high-resolution tower loudspeaker and most affordable Triton yet, and the SuperSat 60/60C, a larger, more powerful versions of the company’s best-selling SuperSat 50/50C. The new Triton Seven ($699.99 ea.) brings Speaker-of-the-Year Award winning Triton Series performance into a more compact size and even more affordable price range. Although it is the first Triton Tower without a built-in powered subwoofer, it still achieves deep, subwoofer-like impactful bass performance. The Seven’s unique cabinet… View this story

Soundbars were quite prominent at CEDIA Expo 2012. And no wonder, they’re compact and offer a significant improvement over a TVs built-in speakers. High-end loudspeaker company GoldenEar Technology introduced its SC3DA SuperCinema 3D Array Soundbar ($999.99) at the show, with extra attention to the audio and surround experience. The SC3DA isn’t a replacement for a full set of 5.1 speakers, as many soundbars try to be, but it packs a left, center and right channel into one speaker bar to provide the aesthetic appeal of a simple front setup. Separate… View this story

GoldenEar Technology is celebrating its first full year of product shipments with three product introductions during CES 2012. Here is a look at the new products debuting inside the Venetian Hotel at Suites 30-332 and 30-334: GoldenEar Triton Three Tower GoldenEar’s Triton Three is a smaller version of the Triton Two, incorporating the built-in powered subwoofer technology first pioneered by GoldenEar principals Sandy Gross and Don Givogue. The Triton Three features a 800-watt digital/DSP-controlled power amp driving an active front-mounted long-throw 5-inch x 9-inch quadratic subwoofer driver. This is coupled… View this story

There are only so many Alan Parsons and Robert "Mutt" Langes in the world, but that doesn't mean that a homeowner can't own a quality pair of nearfield monitors for desktop audio applications such as computer-based audio systems and home studios. The Stevenson, Md.-based speaker manufacturer GoldenEar Technology is providing homeowners with the same audio quality that famous producers like Parsons and Lange are use to experiencing in a product line that's readily available to the public. GoldenEar's new Aon 2 and Aon 3 bookshelf monitors are designed for use… View this story

Only 58 integration companies comprise the trade group Home Technology Specialists of America (HTSA). Even so, the group provides a decent barometer of business conditions for CE pros. During the recent HTSA fall conference in St. Louis, executive director Richard Glikes told CE Pro, “I think people are feeling better” about the integration business, after a couple of sad years. HTSA supports about 42 vendors associated with home audio, video and control, and the organization tracks the purchase of these brands by all of its member dealers. According to Glikes,… View this story

GoldenEar Technology is planning a CEDIA debut, throwing its power into the Triton Two Tower loudspeaker. The big hook is that this big boy has a built-in powered subwoofer. That bass sounds awesome, too, thanks to a GoldenEar-designed 1,200-watt DSP controlled digital amp, which drives two front-mounted quadratic long-throw bass drivers. There's another two quadratic planar infrasonic radiators, which are side-mounted. Other features include two 4.5-inch GoldenEar-designed cast-basket high-definition bass/midrange drivers designed in a D’Appolito configuration around the tweeter and Multi-Vaned Phase Plug (MVPP) in the drivers. Frequency response is… View this story

Jack Shafton spent 15 years at Paradigm Electronics before resigning last month as director of VP sales and marketing.
