Mitsubishi's 75-inch LaserVue TV has won the Most Efficient Energy Star designation for 2012, making it one of the most energy-efficient TVs 55 inches or larger in the United States. Mitsubishi’s LaserVue L75-A94is the largest TV to be recognized in the Most Efficient EPA Energy Star rankings. The TV's laser-light source delivers cinema-like color at a fraction of the power consumption of similarly-sized TVs, Mitsubishi says. The LaserVue L75-A94 operates at less than 85 watts, below the Energy Star 5.3 requirement of 108 watts. “Meeting the Energy Star Most Efficient… View this story

Remodelers, installers and any other professional that touches a home built before 1978 can breathe a sigh of relief. The EPA says it will not impose a new lead-dust sampling requirement -- the so-called clearance requirements -- as part of the Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (LRRP) rules issued last year. The agency issued this statement: The Agency believes that the existing lead-safe work practices and clean up requirements -- which went into place in 2010 -- will protect people from lead dust hazards created during renovations jobs without the… View this story

The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and three other associations have filed suit against the EPA over the removal of an opt-out provision in the original lead paint abatement removal law. According to the NAHB, the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association, the Window and Door Manufacturers Association, and the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association, EPA had originally included a clause that would allow homeowners without children under 6 years old or households without pregnant women to "opt out" of the rules for the handling and removal of… View this story

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began enforcing its Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule on October, 1, 2010. The EPA announced earlier this year that it would delay enforcement to allow adequate time for dealers to become trained and certified in the new regulations. While the EPA was not enforcing the regulations, they officially went into effect on April 22, 2010. All integrators working in pre-1978 homes are affected by these regulations and must be compliant. Failure to comply not only places companies at risk of significant fines from the… View this story

The lousy track record of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) should have all U.S. taxpayers asking for a housecleaning of the agency. Where do I start? The oil spill. Actually, the response to that disaster is a culmination of shoddiness we've all seen in the residential integration business. Finally, the agency got something right for a change by extending the deadline for its lead paint certification to December 31. The "Lead: Renovation, Repair and Paint Rule" went into effect April 22, 2010. It requires those who work in homes built… View this story

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has agreed to extend the deadline for its new lead paint certification. CE pros must enroll in training by Sept. 30, 2010 and complete training by Dec. 31, 2010. (Read EPA press release) The EPA has also agreed to "provide additional trainers in areas of need." The EPA says most states do not have "enough certified trainers to educate contractors about these new requirements. For example, there is just one trainer in Oklahoma and three in the entire state of Maine, as well as three… View this story

At a time when there aren’t even enough instructors to train the tens of thousands of contractors that need lead-paint training, the EPA has decided to make its rules even stricter. The Lead: Renovation, Repair and Painting rule applies to homes built before 1978. Originally, the onerous lead regulations included an opt-out provision that largely limited the regulation’s applicability to older homes that were the residences of pregnant women or children under six years old. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) reports that the agency now is eliminating the… View this story
