Will working on a LEED home put your technicians in danger? Yes, says a new study on construction safety that shows there are 50 percent more injuries among construction workers on LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) projects than conventional structures. Big-box hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s aren’t just opening shelf space to energy-saving LED lamps, energy management systems and even alternative energy systems. You can also get electric vehicle (EV) chargers through the retailers. Schneider Electric just announced that its EVlink 240-volt EV charger is available on HomeDepot.com (list price $799), joining similar chargers from GE, Legrand and Leviton. Big-box chain Lowe’s has announced it will sell a cloud-based home management system called Iris that allows customers the ability to monitor and control their home from anywhere by using a smartphone or computer.
