image Over the years custom installers have appreciated the move by the electronics manufacturer Denon to differentiate its retail and custom installation product lines.

A few weeks ago the company announced three new additions to its custom installation receiver product line (CI) and slotted in the middle of the three products is the AVR-3311 CI, which is engineered by the company to provide installers with a product that is fully featured without the attachment of a big price tag.

To ensure its compatibility with the many advanced control and automation products that populate the market Denon has Worked with companies like Crestron, Universal Remote Control (URC), AMX, Control4 and RTI, and in addition, to ensure its product line's compatibility in today's digital world, the receiver along with its other products are certified “Compatible with Windows 7
.” Denon says this certification ensures compatibility with the updated ‘Play To’ functionality of Microsoft's latest operating system (OS).

Other features of the receiver include Ethernet connectivity, which facilitates entertainment options such as the inclusion of Rhapsody, Napster, Pandora and Flickr, IP-based control and the ability for CE Pros to remotely monitor, diagnose and correct system problems. Rounding out some its non-traditional features are Apple's "Works with iPhone" certification and DLNA connectivity.

Finally, the receiver incorporates all of the latest custom electronics features such as Dolby True HD and DTS MA decoding, Audyssey MultEQ room correction, Dolby Volume, seven HDMI inputs and two outputs, 12-volt triggers and Anchor Bay video processing.

image Coming off the success of its well received Dream E projector, the French-based high-performance video manufacturer Dream Vision has just announced that it is expanding its line of LCoS-based projectors through the introduction of its new Starlight Series.

The major differences between the two products lies in the rated contrast ratio ratings---32,000:1 for the Starlight1 versus the 50,000:1 for the Starlight2---and the additional custom installation provisions, which are incorporated into the Starlight2. Highlighting some of these features are an additional mode setting for dedicated theater environments, and calibration menus that include access to the unit's color management system (CMS).

Dream Vision is distributed in the U.S. by Audio Plus Services, and in addition to the choice of performance levels, Dream Vision also offers the Starlight Series in a choice finishes to enable the projectors to complement a variety of home decor styles.

image A few years ago before the commodization of flat-panel TVs, thin was a big buzz word used to describe the sleek appearance of these products.

Today the word thin can now be used describe the accessories that make a flat-panel TV-based system stealth within a client's home.

A good example of the sleek industrial design that's occurring within the accessory market can be found in products like Ultralink/XLO's Ultra Flat HDMI cables. This new cable line uses a proprietary design to achieve a thin appearance and it features 30AWG oxygen-free copper conductors and a low-capacitance, gas-injected dielectric insulation.

Ultralink/XLO says the cable, which is available in 1-, 2- and 3-meter lengths meets the current standards for high-speed data transmission, and its available in a color choice of black or white.

image With the news that Blu-ray players will soon do away with analog component outputs, CE Pros are going to have to deal with the problems of the HDMI format whether they like it or not.

Sencore's new MP500 HDMI Tester has been updated with new features to enable electronics professionals to troubleshoot systems that incorporate HDMI cabling connections.

Highlighting the tester's list of features are a cable test function, which uses pseudo-random noise to test HDMI distribution paths for bit errors to determine whether a problem is caused by the source, cable, display or repeater, and an expansion of the tester's pattern generator to accommodate multichannel HDMI audio systems. This option provides the patterns required for room acoustic measurement and analysis, including pink noise, impulse, polarity and sine waves.
