What started out as an idea for selling heavily-discounted TruAudio products has now blossomed into a fun forum for introducing unique products - anything from high-end speakers to banana plugs to nose hair trimmers for installers. Now, hundreds of dealers track daily email updates to jump on the best deals. “It’s been a wild success!” says Bryan Garner, President at TruAudio. Launched in June of last year, the Deep Daily Deal program was an initial effort to offer select TruAudio products on a limited-time, limited-quantity basis at substantially-discounted prices. The…

CE Pro Editors | 05/18 07:49 AM,

The Look of Thin “The thinnest flat screen, when mounted, sticks out from the wall about 1 to 2 inches. Our SLIM soundbar is so thin that it will match up perfectly with the flattest flat screens on the market,” states Kary Wawrzyniak, Vice President of Technical Development. To achieve that thinness, TruAudio used an aluminum extrusion process that gives the SLIM soundbar an excellent surface finish while making it very durable. The SLIM has a sharp, classic look with a skin that is brushed aluminum black. The SLIM also…

How to: Building a Whole-House Guitar Distribution System
Julie Jacobson | 02/15 08:04 AM,
4 Comments
If you love playing guitar, why not be able to enjoy the music in every room of the house? That’s exactly what home systems integrator Joe Whitaker was after when he engineered a “whole-house guitar distribution” system in his St. Charles, Mo., home. Whitaker got the idea while installing a home automation and whole-house A/V system for a client. “I couldn’t help but notice the guitars placed all over the home,” he says. “In the basement were a couple of decent electrics; in the hearth room sat a really nice…

Bad Time to be Independent Rep?
Jason Knott | 09/01 08:04 AM,
7 Comments
It must be a nervous time to be an industry rep. In the past two months, four prominent manufacturers have drastically altered their use of independent reps. AVC Group, Lenbrook, TruAudio and Velodyne have all announced consolidation or elimination of their reps. All of these companies are heavily in the audio category. I am not sure the moves are the fault of reps themselves, but rather a circumstance of the economy. DEALERS ONLY: Please take our one-minute survey on reps (Deadline: Sept. 13) All the reps I am in contact…

TruAudio has become the latest manufacturer to change its sales channel strategy, announcing it will eliminate its independent sales reps (except in Southern California) and expand its direct sales channel. The move comes on the heels of several other companies - AVC Group, Velodyne and Lenbrook - also reorganizing or dropping their reps in recent weeks. DEALERS ONLY: Please take our one-minute survey on reps (Deadline: Sept. 13) “If you look at the CEDIA industry, the distribution and sales dynamics have changed dramatically due to technology, competition and economics," says…

Richard Frank | 03/11 08:57 AM,

While custom-built home entertainment products have been around for decades, the custom installation industry helped sprout the build-to-order (BTO) business model for certain manufacturers. For integrators, the ability to spec one-off products offers: Extreme flexibility when designing a systemGreater customer satisfaction by giving them exactly what they wantAdditional margin versus standard productsLower inventory costsThe BTO model is common to several custom product categories, including projection screens, speakers, flat-screen enhancements, theater chairs and even entire theater builds. Leon Speakers is one manufacturer that actively solicits one-offs, often turning around a BTO…
