Russound Dismisses Walt Zerbe, Other Product Managers
Julie Jacobson | 03/18 01:46 PM,
16 Comments
Russound, a leading developer of multiroom audio systems, has laid off one of its most visible managers, Walt Zerbe. Zerbe was part of a larger layoff that included two other product managers, ironically just after the launch of the new boundary-breaking Russound DMS3.1 media streamer, apparently the first in the world that enables users to deliver multiple streams of wireless audio simultaneously to AirPlay-enabled devices. The product has received rave reviews from distributors and dealers alike. Zerbe started with the company as a product manager in 2007, and has become…

Hands On: Installing Russound Streamer with 3x AirPlay
Fred Harding | 02/08 06:46 AM,
6 Comments
Russound has been making whole-house audio equipment for many years. Over the past several years, they have been producing equipment in their “C” series, offering well made, reasonably priced equipment with lots of features. They recently introduced their DMS3.1, also known as the Streamer, to complement their systems. The Streamer is a rack-mountable (1U) device with four separate outputs on it. One of the outputs is a traditional AM/FM tuner that supports RDS (Radio Data Service) metadata. The remaining three outputs are for cloud-based sources, including SiriusXM and other Internet…

Russound DMS3.1 is First Player with Multiple AirPlay Streams
Julie Jacobson | 02/08 06:44 AM,
6 Comments
If one wireless stream of Apple AirPlay audio is good, then three must be three times as good, right? That’s a fact, says Tom Morgan of Worthington Distribution, speaking about the new DMS3.1 “Streamer” from Russound, a leader in multiroom audio. Russound did an “excellent job” all around with the Streamer, “but the three streams of AirPlay puts it over the top,” Morgan says. The Russound DMS3.1 appears to be the first in the world that enables users to deliver multiple streams of wireless audio simultaneously to AirPlay-enabled devices. As…

Russound, Colorado vNet headed in ‘Right Direction’
Julie Jacobson | 08/12 06:56 AM,
4 Comments
Russound CEO Charlie Porritt says it’s been “a rough two-plus years,” but the company is “going in the right direction.” The manufacturer of multiroom audio systems has spent the past couple of years dealing with standby power requirements for Energy using Products (EuP) in Europe, where Russound has a large presence. “Our CAV used to consume 36 watts when it was turned off,” says Porritt. “Starting in 2011, it can only consume 1 watt.” Beyond that, Russound has been busy perfecting its new DMS 3.1 media aggregation and streaming device.…

Jason Knott | 04/22 10:02 AM,
2 Comments
Russound and Colorado vNet have been quiet the past few months on the product front, but that is now changing as the companies unveil a slate of new offerings from both brands. CEO Charlie Porritt says the two companies have spent a lot of time dealing with internal organization and developing a more efficient strategy for engineering, manufacturing and sales structure between the two separate companies based thousands of miles apart. "In the three years since I took over as CEO, the market has changed drastically," says Porritt. "Housing continues…

Is Colorado vNet on the Comeback Trail?
Julie Jacobson | 01/28 11:01 AM,
9 Comments
Colorado vNet died its first death in mid-2009, revived itself with the Russound acquisition shortly thereafter, and then died again in December 2010. Now the manufacturer of lighting controls, multiroom audio and home automation looks to be coming back to life under the Russound brand. That’s what one very large Canadian distributor says, anyway. In a letter to integrators yesterday (full text below), the distributor wrote: Hello vNet Certified Dealers, As of today Russound, has decided to continue on with the product but will transition from the vNet badge to…
