Sell the content, not the devices! That was the lesson of our streaming media panel discussion during EHX - The CE Pro Event in Orlando, Fla. The gist? When someone walks into your shop looking for a TV, the first questions shouldn’t be: What size? What resolution? What brand? It should be: What do you watch? I just returned from the ProSource Summit in Florida, where I did a presentation on technology for seniors. In the presentation, I referred to Tom Ardolf, who has doggedly pursued public and private funds to help his company Cybermation (St. Cloud, Minn.) launch an aging-in-place business. Lo and behold, this morning the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports, "Minnesota wins $187M health care grant." A new home connectivity store will be opening up in CE pro showrooms throughout North America, potentially giving the custom industry its first national presence. The store, called Connected Source, is an initiative of ProSource, a dealer group formed by the merger this year of the PRO Group and Home Entertainment Source. ProSource, the new buying group formed by the combination of Home Entertainment Source (HES) and PRO Group (Progressive Retailers Organization) is bullish about the market prospects for independent dealers.
