Someone at Netflix appears to be having a nervous breakdown. Can you blame them? Back in July, Netflix announced plans to separate its streaming and DVD plans. Everyone probably remembers how that panned out. Despite the outcry, Netflix went through with its new pricing plan. CEO Reed Hastings eventually sent out an apology, only to drop another bomb, saying that the company would separate the two business units even further. The DVD side would soon become Qwikster. Um, just kidding? Today, Hastings the CEO says that they aren’t going to… View this story

Meridian has launched two products, the Sooloos Control 15 and Media Source 600, both of which appear to target ease of installation and relative affordability. With the Sooloos Control 15, which begins shipping today, CE pros can provide storage, playback and control. The $7,500 MSRP reflects a lower entry point than Sooloos Digital Media System Version 2.1’s $8,250. Meridian’s Media Source 600, which also begins shipping today, is designed as a low-impact way for CE pros to add Sooloos digital music, Internet radio and Rhapsody to a client’s audio system.… View this story

For seven years, dealers have recognized Kaleidescape as having the most reliable multiroom movie server in the business. But they’ve been twiddling their thumbs while the manufacturer developed a solution for Blu-ray storage. Integrators and their wealthy clients will finally get what they wished for … sort of. Two new M-Class players (M500, M300), which will ship May 18, will let users add Blu-ray discs to a Kaleidescape movie library and play them throughout the house – with one major caveat: The physical disc must be in the DVD tray.… View this story

1. Apple iPad launch may be delayed … maybe not This is an amusing report and it’s not just The Money Times. Many outlets are citing a market analyst who says it’s quite possible that Apple won’t meet its planned March release of the iPad or that the release will be limited to the U.S. at that time. However, the report questions the analyst's credibility. Peter Misek from Canaccord Adams says the delay may be caused by a production problem “at the iPod’s manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision.” It could limit… View this story

CE pros are always looking for legitimate ways to stay in touch with their clients. For two weeks in February anyway, Crestron has provided a nice conversation piece with its ADMS Intermedia Delivery System Winter Olympics icon. On the Internet TV menu, the icon provides direct access to all Olympic content and instantly plays selections in full-screen 1080p, according to a Crestron press release. Viewers can search on a specific team, athlete or browse through “Most Popular” or “Latest” competitions. ADMS also delivers related content such as interviews, background videos,… View this story

Apple’s much-hyped iPad tablet could be a colossal failure. But that's not likely since everything Steve Jobs touches seems to turn to gold and have a huge influence on our culture. Many didn’t think the iPod would impact the custom electronics industry, but it altered the way multiple generations find and listen to music. Plenty of CE pros have followed suit, using iPods or iPhones as epicenters of their multiroom audio/video systems. Many didn’t think the iPhone would impact the custom electronics installation industry, but its prolific app store continues… View this story

Zobo.tv, a home systems integrator in Charlotte, N.C., has already received plenty of attention for selling consumers on digital content rather than TVs and speakers. Now we have the video to prove it. General Manager Scott Osborne takes us on a tour of Zobo’s showroom, highlighting some of the content-centric rooms for Music Lovers, Movie Lovers and Gamers. He tells CE Pros that the brands of content – such as Pandora, Netflix, Vudu, Blockbuster and AppleTV – are rarely mentioned. Instead, Zobo sales associates explain to customers how they can,… View this story
