Orlando Police Chief Advises Residents to Get Surveillance Cameras

In yet another sign of the market potential for integrators to install residential cameras, the police chief in Orlando is actually encouraging residents to install the cameras in their homes. According to ClickOrlando.com, Orlando Police Chief Paul Rooney says property crime would drop 10 percent and police would clear more property crimes with residential cameras in place. Channel Vision Debuts Free DDNS Service for Security Cameras, DVRs

Channel Vision is now providing a free DDNS (Dynamic Domain Name System) service to its surveillance customers called Channel Vision Security. Channel Vision Security will continually track the IP address of the system and automatically change with any IP address change. Schlage LiNK Rebrands as Nexia Home Intelligence

Ingersoll Rand (IR) announced at CES 2012 it has rebranded its subscription-based Schlage LiNK automated deadbolt system as Nexia Home Intelligence. The Nexia system includes the Schlage locks, Trane ComfortLink II Control for HVAC, shade control from Pella Windows and Doors dubbed SmartSync - three powerful brands in consumer circles. ZyXEL has launched its CloudEnabled series of web cameras, the IPC3605N and IPC4605N. LAPD Drops Gmail, Questions Cloud-based Security

The LAPD is dumping Google's Gmail email service, saying it could not meet the security needs of the the police department. Does Gmail's failure to meet security needs bring into question the legitimacy of cloud-based security applications where video surveillance images are recorded and stored offsite, primarily for financial reasons?
