Samsung Widens Lead Over Vizio in LCD TV Market

Samsung solidified its spot atop the U.S. LCD TV market in the fourth quarter of 2011, according to IHS iSuppli (IHS), by accounting for nearly one-quarter (23.6 percent) of LCD TV shipments in the U.S. Shipments of Samsung LCD TVs reached a record high for a quarter, representing the largest share of the market ever posted by Samsung on a quarterly basis. Vizio Licenses TV Patents to Westinghouse, Ends Lawsuit

Westinghouse has become a licensee under Vizio's QAM patent portfolio by virtue of a cross-license between the two companies. Vizio, which sells through Costco Wholesale, Sam's Club, Walmart, Target, BJ's Wholesale, and other retailers nationwide along with authorized online partners, owns a substantial worldwide patent portfolio directed to digital television technology for its LCD HDTVs. The signing of the QAM License with Westinghouse also concludes actions brought by Vizio. Vizio Google TVs, Media Streamer, CinemaWide 3D TVs Debut

Google TV is alive and well at CES 2012. Vizio has revealed its Google TV range of 3D TVs, the R-Series, with the Internet Apps Plus service, Vizio's custom spin on Google TV. The R-Series consists of the 42-inch R3D420VS, 47-inch R3D470VS, 55-inch R3D550VS and 65-inch R3D650VS. Each R-Series TV runs at 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution with a 5.5ms response times. Vizio, LG Resolve Patent Dispute

Vizio has signed a settlement agreement and undisclosed cross license agreements to end a patent dispute with LG Electronics that began in 2008. The settlement encompasses actions that LG and Vizio filed in the U.S. including in the International Trade Commission resulting in various orders and determinations. The terms of the settlement agreement and the cross license agreements were not released. The parties will file requests for dismissal of all outstanding actions in the appropriate courts.
