TiVo's newly announced TiVo Premiere DVR is the company's latest product… View this story

TiVo is introducing an extender box that enables users to stream content from a centralized DVR to multiple TV locations. Don’t they already have such a thing? Sorta kinda. The TiVo Preview, introduced last year, enables whole-house content sharing, but it’s not a retail product. Rather, it is a tuner with CableCard support which is distributed through the cable companies and other carriers, who get to charge you for each TV set. The forthcoming IP-enabled set-top box, on the other hand, is a retail product that does not need to… View this story

TiVo reported the winners of its third annual Battle of the Consumer Electronics Brands at CES. For the first time ever, Walmart unseated Best Buy for the top spot among retailers. Walmart had the lowest fast-forward rate compared to all the other retailers with ads running on broadcast and cable. Walmart scored the lowest fast-forward rate on ABC, where it allocated 20 percent of its broadcast schedule. TiVo will receive $215 million from AT&T after mutually settling a patent infringement lawsuit. As part of the settlement, TiVo and AT&T agreed to dismiss all pending litigation between the companies. AT&T agreed to pay TiVo an initial payment of $51 million, followed by recurring quarterly guaranteed payments through June 2018, totaling $164 million, which together yield minimum payments of $215 million. In addition to these minimum payments, AT&T will pay incremental recurring per subscriber monthly license fees through July 2018 should AT&T's DVR subscriber base exceed certain levels. What good is TiVo if it doesn’t come with a DVR, electronic programming guide (EPG) or CableCard slots? Plenty good, according to Best Buy, which is building the TiVo interface into a new line of its Insignia Connected TVs. The display is the first to utilize the TiVo GUI, providing an “intuitive user experience for accessing live broadcast and online content, all without a paid TiVo subscription,” according to a Best Buy press release. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. The TVs simply employ the TiVo… View this story

TiVo is currently running a Father’s Day promotion, offering free TiVo Premiere hardware with a 2-year commitment of $19.99 monthly service. As Zatz Not Funny points out, it really only pays for itself after the two years. Didn’t dad teach you to be patient? TiVo Premiere first started shipping in early 2010, with an MSRP of $299.99. It has 320GB of storage, which can hold about 45 hours of high-def or 400 hours of standard-definition programming. It also provides unlimited access to Hulu Plus, Netflix, and Pandora Internet radio, assuming… View this story
